Dear Client,

I think it’s safe to say that World Cup fever is contagious. Everywhere we look we see posters, adverts and news. We hear how FIFA needs an extra 200 000 beds to ensure that we won’t have tourists roaming the streets in search of a bed and the countdown has begun. Excitement is in the air for all South Africans as we all have a part to play in making this World Cup one to remember.

Just as FIFA is running through their various checklists to ensure the success of the 2010 World Cup, so is it important for you to do the same at your practice. I cannot stress the importance of keeping a firm finger on the pulse of your practice and insuring that the correct processes are kept in place.

We often concentrate on the bigger picture and forget about the small things. It is often these small things that keep things running smoothly so spend a few minutes a week checking on your debtors and creditors records and making sure that they are up to date, ensuring that the correct banking details are reflected on your accounts and that everyone working at the practice is on the same page.

Just as I think that everyday should be Valentines Day or Human Rights Day, I think that everyday should be Woman’s Day. We should always appreciate our loved ones and respect the rights of others and so we should think of women and how far they have come. Although the 9th of August has come and gone I find it worthwhile to spend a bit more time on the subject.

Women are the glue in the household, office or boardroom. They have the ability to put a spark into the drabbest of situations and a woman’s touch is priceless. I want to dedicate this edition of our newsletter to those women who make use of our services, and those in my organisation who make so much possible. Your dedication, professionalism, friendliness and commitment to your task doesn’t go unnoticed! Your persistence to make South Africa a better place is remarkable.

Looking at a list of the 100 most influential women in the world, it struck me that the number one spot has been held for three consecutive years by Angela Merkel – the German Chancellor. I must say that I found comfort in seeing that the number 5 in the world is indeed Anglo American’s CE, Cynthia Carroll, whilst the CE of Wellpoint, Angela Braly in the US lies in the 4th spot. The world of IT is also well represented – with Carol Bartz, the CE of Yahoo in the top 15. These are very successful and powerful women!

Navanethem Pillay, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, UN from South Africa, was number 63 on the list, quite a remarkable achievement! I think it's only a matter of time, before we see more and more South African women slipping into the top positions.

I felt extremely proud when I saw that ABSA Group Chief Executive, Maria Ramos has been named the world’s ninth most influential businesswoman in Fortune magazine’s 2009 Global Leaders survey and I bet you that our newly appointed Governor of the Reserve Bank Gill Marcus will soon be near the top of that list too.

Thank you to all women in our business whether you are a client or a Med-e-Mass employee.
Please keep on doing what you are doing – it works.

You are making a difference!

Until next time! Happy practicing!
