Cross Training for Growth
If that is not enough all our training courses have been updated, revamped and improved. As you may know each regional office has a fully equipped training centre where you can go to learn about practice administration. Whether you are a newcomer to the industry or want to sharpen your skills, the training courses equip you to face the daily challenges. The training is facilitated by consultants that know the industry and by doing the topical case studies, you will be ready to implement the ideas the moment you are back at the practice.
There are some things in life that you cannot control or change. You cannot insure that your cell phone network won’t be down, you cannot guarantee that you won’t fall victim to power cuts and you most certainly cannot insure that your employees will not be absent. Luckily you can plan for these inevitabilities by getting a power generator or by cross training your staff. This will insure that critical gaps can easily be filled without getting behind on billing, running up over time costs or compromising on patient services.
Additional benefits of cross-training:
- It’s a quality improvement tool. If one employee does the work for another, there’s a fresh mind in that job. A lot of new ideas and suggestions can be generated from cross-trained people.
- It promotes consistency. When employees learn the particulars of other jobs in the office, they know the required procedures, what paperwork is required, where materials are and therefore keep the workflow consistent.
- It increases options. Especially in a small practice, cross-training is almost a necessity, because the practice can remain functional when key people move on, get sick, or take a vacation.
- It increases empathy and promotes teamwork. Cross-trained staff get a better understanding and appreciation of the difficulties and limitations of their colleagues’ jobs, and therefore they work better together.
- It uncovers hidden talents. Someone hired as a receptionist might find she has a knack for credit control and can be used in that function without having to advertise and train a new staff member.
- It’s a morale booster. Cross-training makes for a more diverse and interesting workday. It allows and encourages employees to grow in the job, and gives them opportunities to learn new skills.
